Week #7: Style Jock of the Week

In the past seven days, athletes scored big with a variety of playoff, game day and formal looks that we loved. As per usual, it’s hard to choose the most fashion-forward looks, but here’s our top five outfits for theStyle Jock of the Week.

5. Russell Westbrook

So far for 2016, Russell Westbrook has been making some amazing strides on the court and the same can be said about his fashion choices. On a nightly basis, Westbrook makes bold fashion choices that has people talking about the self-proclaimed “Fashion King.” Whether its poncho paired with a trendy wide-brim hat or a pink jumpsuit, the OKC star is pushing the boundaries with his fashion-forward looks. He even defended one of his looks on Instagram saying “Rock it like a Rockstar….. swagggggggg.”  For his adventurous sense of style, we def had to add him to this week's list.

4. Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton attended the IWC Gala in Switzerland looking dapper in Hugo Boss suit, white kicks and a IWC Poilot World Timer watch. The 31-year-old Formula 1 racer is a brand ambassador for the watch line and stunned the red carpet in his cool look.

3. James Jones

Even though the Green Bay Packers didn’t win in the playoffs, James Jones is winning in this look. Created by Elevee Custom Clothing, the look featured a blue and white stripped top, turquoise tie and electric blue jacket. He simply looked sharp and it fit him perfectly.

2. Damian Lillard

At the screening party for his music video “Bigger Than Us” Portland Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard  had a pretty standout look. Rocking a $995 Coach Mens leather baseball jacket and a Coach spring/summer 2016 t-shirt, the 25-year-old baller looked young, fresh and cool. Def one of the best looks we’ve seen from him.

1.       David Beckham

Last week David Beckham attended the 6th Biennial UNICEF Ball and received the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Leadership Award for his charity and work with children around the globe through his 7 Fund. To accept the gracious award, the soccer star rocked a navy blue $5,670 Tom Ford Slim-Fit Mohair and Wool-Blend tuxedo paired with a black $225 Saint Laurent bow tie. The classic look suit Beckham perfectly and there’s no debating he looks good in ANYTHING he wears.  David Beckham you're the best dressed and the Style Jock of the Week.

Cam Newton vs Russell Wilson: Fashion Rivalry

Today two of the NFL’s top quarterbacks go head-to-head in one of the most highly anticipated playoff games this post-season. Cam Newton’s Carolina Panthers and Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks will battle it out to make it one step closer to Super Bowl 50.

We could break down all the plays, crunch some numbers and even chat with the pros to predict who will win the game. But here at Style Jock, we focus on more than stats; we’re all about the fashion. We believe when you look good, you play good, so we predict the most fashionable QB will win.

We’re going to matchup looks from Russell and Cam and pick who is the best dressed QB.

1st Quarter- Summertime Fashions

Russell: Who can forget this look from last April? Russell was DEF ready for vacation in this look. On his way to player camp in Hawaii, he was spotted wearing a floral blue and white top. While most of his teammates kept is casual is sweat suits, the QB opted for a look your dad wears to the beach.

Cam: Showing love for Carolina while riding a hooverboard, check out Cam covered in Charlotte Hornets gear. Perfectly coloured coordinated in teal and purple, Cam looks super casual and cool in this look. Plus the complexity of looking stylish and keeping your balance on a hooverboard is tough!

TOUCHDOWN for Newton.

2nd Quarter- Day Off Swag

Cam: Here’s Cam sitting courtside at an NBA game in a throwback Charlotte jersey and matching hat. We get it Cam, you love Carolina and the outfit is super dope. But the best part about this look, was Cam doing the "dab" that captivated social media.

Russell: Rockstars are notorious wearing black and leather. So when Russell wore an all-black look and leather jacket on stage with pop star Taylor Swift during her tour stop in Seattle, he looked the part. The clean and simple look was super cool and plus it doesn’t hurt to have a hot girlfriend like Ciara by your side in matching threads.

This one was close, but FIELD GOAL for Russell.

3rd Quarter- Dressed to Impress at the ESPY's

Cam: Here’s Cam Newton at the 2011 ESPY's sporting a grey suit with baby blue tie and glasses. Channeling his inner Clark Kent, Newton kept it classic and clean. For 2011, when fashion wasn’t that big for athletes like it is now, this was a pretty good look for the budding QB.

Russell: At the 2015 ESPY's this is the BEST Russell has ever looked. Rocking a purple Calvin Klein suit with black top and skinny tie, Wilson looked super chic. It’s hard to rock a bold coloured suit, but Russell pulled off the look perfectly and easily made the best dressed list for the night. Again Russell had the best accessory, his boo in a matching ensemble.

4th Quarter- Game Day

Russell: There really isn’t anything to compare when it comes to game day fashion between the two. Yes on game day, Russell looks professional in a suit, but he doesn’t add a fashionable touch and flair like Cam. Not to mention, in the past he use to show up to post game press conferences in a football jersey and camo hat.

Cam: From foxtails to bow ties to sparkly loafers, Cam Newton has definitely transformed game day fashion in the NFL and everyone has noticed. Every week, people tune in to watch the Panthers on the field, but they're watching the post-game press conference to see what the star QB is going to wear. Newton also has his own collection called Made by Cam Collection from Belk, so fans can stay stylish like him. Cam wins this style battle against Russell NO DEBATE! Cam knows he is stylish and he knows he has the swag to pull off anything,

He’s so stylish, the sports world isn’t only talking about his MVP season, they’re chatting about his fashions! With a fashion-forward leader like Cam, he’ll lead his team to victory and to Super Bowl 50.

Take a look at some of Cam's killer looks from this season and what he had to say about his infamous fox tail.

Week #6 - Style Jock of the Week

In 2015 athletes in every league stepped up their fashion game and 2016 looks promising for Pro athletes and style. Here at Style Jock we say; new year, new fashions and we look forward to every fashion hit or miss in the NBA, NFL, NHL and more.

January has started off on a good foot and it was hard to decided the Style Jock of the Week. Here's a look at the top looks from athletes this past week.

5. The Cleveland Cavaliers
The beginning of the year is coming along well for the Cleveland Cavs, on and off the court. They're winning games, Iman Shumpert just had a baby, Kyrie Irving has a new love and not to mention the whole team dresses well ALL THE TIME. Last week, some members of the team snapped the pic below and shared their love for each other and fashion. Showcasing an array for fashions from street wear to high-fashion, again the Cavs showed us why they are the best dressed team in the NBA, maybe even the best dressed team in sports. #SQUADGOALS.

4. Stefon Diggs
The Minnesota Vikings didn't win in the post season, but rookie Stefon Diggs is winning in the fashion department. Arriving to last week's game against the Seattle Seahawks, Diggs was on trend with this wide-brimmed hat. The 22-year-old wide receiver had a pretty great year in fashion this season and was def the best dressed rookie in the NFL.

3. P.K. Subban
Rocking Montreal designers Maison Eläma and SartorialtoP.K. Subban looked amazing in his Winter Classic ensemble. The entire outfit was custom-made for the NHL star. The coat was designed by Maison Eläma and features Italian cashmere and Canadian-made fur. His suit, tie, shirt and matching burgundy hat were created by Sarorialto. He was definitely channeling some 70s flair and Denzel Washington in American Gangster. Très Chic!

2. Rashad Jennings
New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings hit the 14th Annual GEM Awards Gala in NYC hosted by the Jewellers of America. The gala recognizes outstanding achievements of companies and people in fine jewellery and watch industry. Jennings was an honorable guest and was decked out in a dapper custom navy blue suit, black loafers, bow tie and a Roger Dubuis watch. Looking sharp!

1. Tom Brady
This isn't the first time Tom has made our best dressed of the week list. But being voted one of the top 10 best dressed players in the NFL automatically makes you Style Jock of the Week.  According to the "Fashion Po-Po" segment by Ike Taylor and Maurice Jones- Drew,  the star QB is always sporting a high-fashion look.  And we certainly agree.  At a recent away game, Tom was rocking a very trendy turtleneck and checkered suit for a super sophisticated look perfect for winter. Tom Brady, you're the the Style Jock of the Week for 2016.

Week #5: Style Jock of the Week- Holiday Edition

To celebrate Christmas, here at Style Jock we have a special Style Jock of the Week dedicated to the holidays. Players in the NFL and NBA have been getting into the festive spirit all month long and here are our favourite holiday-inspired looks from athletes with tons of festive cheer!

5. Odell Beckham Jr.
This past Sunday, Odell Beckham Jr. hit the field to play the Panthers in yet another pair of super cool pair of cleats. Basically he was wearing Christmas tree on his feet. The red and green cleats featured lights, a stripped candy cane sole, ribbon-like laces, a present and glitter.

4. Mike Dunleavy
Even though Mike Dunleavy is still recovering from his back surgery, the Chicago Bull is still in good spirits. During one of the games, Dunleavy was spotted on the sidelines in Christmas vest covered in snowflakes and a snowman.

3. Devin Taylor
A lot can be said about Devin Taylor's Christmas-inspired suit he wore on Monday versus the New Orleans Saints. The Detroit Lions' defensive end wore a red, white and green suit with matching red kicks. When asked about the suit he said, "I already actually had this back in October, November and I was just waiting for the right time of year to wear it. I guess it matched more of my uniqueness, I guess, 'cause not many people are willing to go outside their boundaries and try something different." If you look closely to the details of the suit, some are saying it features guns and dinosaurs, instead of a festive print. We beg to differ.

2. Cam Newton
What's better than a festive look? A trendy festive look. Of course we know Cam Newton has amazing style on and off the field, but who knew he could make festive gear look so stylish. While Cam was surprising local kids with a cool Christmas party, the star quarterback wore a "Dabbing Santa" sweater, a Santa hat and red fox tail to match!

1. Brian Orakpo
Brian Orakpo made this Ugly Christmas Suit look good. The Tennessee Titans linebacker loved the suit so much, he had to wear it twice. Once to the team's Christmas party and the other to their game against the New England Patriots. Made by Shinesty, the red suit is covered in christmas trees and snowmen and fits the 29-year-old so well. The suit is under $100 bucks and there are nine other festive looks to choose from. If you're looking for a cool alternative to the Ugly Christmas Sweater, this is def the way to go. Brian Orakpo, you're the Style Jock of the Week!

This past week, the Sacramento Kings guard/forward looked ready for fall in two plaid looks. On day one, he rocked a red and black plaid top with rolled up dark denim. On day two, he wore a black and white checkered top with distressed black denim and brown suede boots. Both days he topped off his looks with a black trench coat. The fact that Brady can pull off these boots, def makes him a Style Jock. Let's see how many guys start strutting the streets in these.

Canadian-native, Tristan Thompson, perfectly mixed casual and fancy with this look. Taking a page from LeBron's style book, Tristan looked dapper in this camel blazer paired with black top and jeans. To complete his look, the Cleveland Cavs power forward wore Valentino $975 camocouture sneakers from the 2015 fall/winter collection.

This Super Bowl champ scored big with this winning look he wore last week to play the Ravens. Kameron Chancellor knows how to look casual and cool. The best part about the look, is its super easy to achieve for anyone, not just NFL Super Bowl Champs.

1. Asafa Powell
Last week, Olympian and Jamaican Sprinter Asafa Powell attended Rihanna's annual Diamond Ball fundraiser. Dressed in a suit by Jamaican designer, Carlton Brown, the track star definitely  stood out from the crowd. His navy blue stripped suit with matching bow tie and shoes looked unique and it's pretty cool he stuck to local talent instead of hitting up a big time designer. Asafa Powell is the Style Jock of the Week
