With the Super Bowl only weeks away, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and the NFL have teamed up to celebrate the monumental 50th game. Fifty designers have created a collection of Bespoke Designer Footballs and have added their own fashionable touch to the game.
Designers like Betsey Johnson, Rachel Zoe, Prabal Gurung, Vince Camuto, Rebecca Minkoff, Sam Edelman, Rachel Roy and more decorated their own one-of-a-kind balls. Each football had a gold theme, which tied into the anniversary, but each designer added his or her flare. From being covered in 17,500 Swarovski crystals to python with a gold-plated handle and even spikes, each football showcased and celebrated fashion and Super Bowl 50.
On January 20th the footballs will be revealed at the NFL offices in New York and during Super Bowl Week they’ll be on display during events in San Francisco. Later in the year, the fashionable footballs will be auctioned off on NFL.com to raise funds for the NFL Foundation.
In 2014 at Super Bowl XLVIII, designers created couture helmets that also were auctioned for charity. The top-selling helmet sold for over $5000. These footballs look pretty amazing and each designer really created a unique ball any fashion or football fan will love. We’ll see which fancy football raises the most money.
In the Style Jock office, we think the top selling footballs will be from Nicole Miller, Rachel Zoe, Melissa Joy Manning or Tiffany & Co. Take a look at some of the fashionable footballs and let us know what you think.
